Autism

The Center for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 45 children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Prana K9's program addresses the rising prevalence and unique needs of individuals with autism by training and placing custom service dogs with their families in greater North West area. Our service dogs assist with the challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum by performing cues and behaviors that improve aspects of safety, social, communication, and adaptive skills, lending to increased independence and quality of life. The result is powerful and transforms autism Service Dog recipients and their entire family unit. Contact us for more information and available dogs.

PTSD

service dogs

Anyone experiencing a traumatic life event can suffer from the debilitating effects of PTSD. Although PTSD is closely associated with military combat, sexual-assault survivors are diagnosed with the disorder at an even higher rate than veterans; According to the National Violence Against Women Prevention Research Center, about 30 percent of rape victims develop PTSD at some point, as compared to about 20 percent of veterans. Some example tasks PTSD dogs can perform for their partners include: warding off panic attacks by alerting handler to an incipient episode, relieving bouts of hyper-vigilence by providing a point of focus, interruption of night mares, relieving anxiety via tactile stimulation or deep pressure therapy, and alerting to agressive driving or behavior. A properly trained PTSD service dog can be the difference between complete social isolation and being able to function in the community for many sufferers.
